Cerused oak process

Oak ’s highly visible grain makes it one of the surfaces for the finish. What is cerused oak wood? How to make cerused oak finish? Though the end result looks remarkably painstaking and elegant, applying ceruse. Although, I often see this type of finish with Oak , it works well with many types of wood including mahogany or cherry.

This product worked beautifully! Oak is the number one choice of wood when in comes to doing the cerused effect as it has a heavy grain markings and very open pores. Some other advantages to oak is how the wood is cross-cut which highlights the grain motif even more, when the ceruse effect is added the piece is completely transformed into something amazing. I had never heard of that, but I wanted…. Here’s an example of a credenza with cerused drawers.


Material here are White Oak plain slice veneer (smaller grain pattern one) and Red Oak veneer (bold grain pattern one). Both panels are sanded with 1grid before go to. There are a couple discussions in the Knowledge Base about cerused oak.


Make sure to use solid wood with large pores. Open the pores before dying or staining the wood (brass brush). Adjust how much you thin the seal coat (wash coat) you use over the base color.

These TSS or textured laminates are a material we are currently using in our custom cabinetry line.
