Sawtimber definition is - timber suitable for sawing into lumber. This type of board is used mainly for construction purposes and allows larger knots than the finer grades of pine lumber. This grade permits knots up to two-thirds the width of the board depending on the type of knot. It also allows for splits up to twice the width of the board but less than one-sixth its length.

European pine sawfly larvae are grayish green. Two light stripes and one dark stripe run down the sides of the body. The legs and head are shiny black. The larvae feed mainly on mugo, Scotch, and Austrian pines, though other pine species are occasionally damaged.

They do not feed on spruce or fir. ALL SAW LOGS REQUIRE 6″ TRIM. WHITE ASH 8′ 6″, 12’6″, 16’6″ LENGTHS preferred.

Female sawflies use their “ saw ” to insert eggs into leaves. They are more closely related to wasps than flies, though they don’t sting. Sightings of adult sawflies are rare, but you may occasionally see them near flowers and flower buds where their offspring cause damage to the foliage. Conifer sawflies are a unique group of defoliating insects. The various species (see Pine Saw fly – Species) are distributed throughout the area where their preferred hosts grow.

The larvae are hostspecific and feed on old and current year foliage at some point in their development. They can feed on many pines including Scotch, Eastern white, and Austrian. The insect spends the winter as eggs deposited in pine needles. Pine Saw is a low-power saw which was introduced in Fantasy Life.

The saw is used in making slits in the plant. Eggs are then deposited in the slit. The redheaded pine sawfly (Neodiprion lecontei) over-winters in a prepupal stage in the litter under the tree. In the spring after completing pupation, the adults emerge.

We have our own sawmill located at our Belfast location, which enables us to saw our own timbers. We saw custom hemlock, spruce, red oak, white pine, cedar, and douglas fir. Pine logs are sawn into cants during the winter months and then stuck for re-sawing during all other months. Doug fir cants are 12×1 14×1 or 16×from feet to feet, resawn. We no longer sell green rough sawn wood.
