How to install or replace door hinges? Place your hinges in the correct location. Trace around the hinge.


Put your hinge in place on the door and the jamb , and use a carpenters pencil to carefully. Hold the hinge snuggly against the mortise at the top of the old hinges. Take a sharp pencil and draw an outline of the hinge on the door frame. You will repeat this process for all the hinges, always keeping the hinge aligned with the top of the old location. Replacing door hinges is super easy.


It doesn’t matter if you are doing external or internal doors , you can swap them out really easily. The easiest way is to replace one hinge at a time. Inspect the door hinge and look for where it is loose or hangs off of the door or doorjamb. Use the same measurements for each hinge on the new door. Line up each hinge inside the marks on the new door and trace the outline. Score the Mortises.


Prop the new door on its side and use a sharp utility knife to score the mortise for each hinge. Keep a steady hand around any curved marks to make it easier to chisel out those areas.
