Rough sawn beams

What is rough sawn lumber used for? How do you cut lumber? Beams will be Common grade, rough sawn , freshly cut green (wet) wood. Could have marks from drying sticks, weathering, spray paint, or metal strapping.

Common uses for these are for exterior fascia, trim and belly boards. Other uses include: woodworking projects, shelving, or crafts. Some items may require additional lead time.


Prices reflect in-stock items only. It is left literally rough and needs to be drie plane and otherwise dressed by the recipient. This lumber tends to be less costly and some people prefer working with it because it gives them greater control. The boards are to 12. Our rough cut lumber is milled primarily for custom orders - please call to make an order or check availability.


Lumber is full dimention - custom cut orders have a lead time of 3-weeks. Beam Sizing: Our heavy timber beams are cut to Standard Dimensions. All beams larger than 8” inch will mill to the ¼” inch. If customer is in need of exact thickness, material will need to be cut oversize then planed down to exact thickness. Example: A 8xBeam will net an overall ½”x ¼”.


Douglas Fir is an ideal choice of rough sawn beams where it is intended for structural choice. Our rough cut Douglas fir beams and timbers are all milled specifically for your order and dry stacked and bundled for delivery. Note:See left column for more options. White Fir availability is limited at this time.


Also Great for raised garden beds. All timbers are stocked rough sawn. Cut from rough sawn lumber and stained with a dark color they will look great on your window sill or book case. Give as a housewarming gift or keep all to yourself. For example, an 8x8xwill measure approximately inches by inches by feet for a true 8x8x8.


Our barnboard “barnwood” pine has been used for many projects across the country. Composite plastic lumber. With rough lumber, you’ll come across cracks at the ends of the boards. Because of that, you should anticipate that you’ll be cutting several inches off of each board. So, if you estimate you’ll need foot boards for your project, buy a foot rough-sawn lumber board.

At this stage, a 1×board measures exactly (or very close to) inch thick by inches wide. Rough-sawn lumber can be cut from kiln-dried stable wood or “green” from a tree that has just been felled. It depends on the size. By coming direct to the sawmill you the consumer can save.


Special Appearance Grade Cedar is sure to please for any project requiring handsome wood. Once it dries, the lumber will not all be the same uniformed size, even if they are close. This is called rough - sawn lumber. I specialize in custom rough cut timber for builders and home owners. In addition I construct rough cut custom timber and lumber projects.


High quality local Idaho Red Fir and Pine is used. Most of our timber is grown and cut from the states of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama. Available in 3×thru 12×and in lengths from 8’ – 40’, we can provide this timber in either a surfaced or a rough sawn finish. Special sizes and lengths are available on a custom order basis.
